SUNDAY CONNECTION
Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A Sunday, August 27, 2023
Gospel Reading
Matthew 16:13-20 Simon Peter acknowledges Jesus as the Christ and is given the key to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Family Connection
Sunday’s Gospel reminds us that the Church is built on the foundation of faith in Jesus Christ. Peter announces the core of our faith that Jesus is God’s only Son. The family, as the domestic church, has this same faith as its foundation.
As you gather together as a family, talk about people whose faith has helped you to be a member of the Church and talk about what you have learned from leaders in our Church today. Read together Sunday’s Gospel, Matthew 16:13-20. Talk about what you know about Peter and his importance to the early Christian community. Talk about what we can learn from Peter and his profession of faith about Jesus.

The week is about celebrating the strengths and acheivement of our Catholic schools.
The Mass was attended by our Grade 6 students. Our grade 3 - 6 school choir combined with the Marist College choir to have the priviledge of being part of the celebration.

Book Week Parade : Thursday 24th August
Spectators are invited to come along to watch from 9:30 for a 10am start. The proceedings will be taking place in the MPR due to the forecast of wet weather.
As part of our Book Week celebrations Mrs Mason came to share her love of reading with some of the students for Book Week. Students and staff really enjoyed having Mrs Mason back in the school helping our students celebrate this exciting week. Thank you Mrs Mason.
Grade 5 Camp - Hagley
Grade 5 have had a great time away this Monday-Wednesday at their camp. We have visited the playground in Launceston, Penny Royal, Hagley Farm School and Airtime 360. Some of the highlights have been the cliff jumping, zipline and boat rides at Penny Royal. Another fan favourite has been the day at Hagley where students have participated in a range of activities from feeding farm animals, making bread, butter and candles to going for a tractor ride. All the students also had fun bouncing up a storm at Airtime 360. A big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who have helped make this event happen, we know the students really appreciate the organisation. More photos will follow in the next school newsletter.
Inter School Chess Tournament
On Monday, 20 students from the Stella Maris Chess club went to Leighlands to represent our school in the inter-school championship. Our students got split into 2 teams, as a couple of the other schools ended up pulling out. Each student got to play 7 games, with Stella Gold coming in second place and Stella Blue actually taking out first place. This means that Stella Maris can send through 5 players to the next level in Term 4. Congratulations to all the students for representing Stella Maris extremely well and a big thank you to Mrs.Leaver and Mrs.Sayers for accompanying the students to the competition.
