Gospel Reading Matthew 10:37-42
Jesus outlines the costs and rewards of discipleship.
Family Connection
One can tell a lot about a family by the way they welcome others into their home. Despite parental efforts to elicit the best behaviour from their children, family efforts to entertain guests are sometimes difficult. Practising a spirit of Christian hospitality within the family can be an occasion to reflect upon the importance of this virtue. A family spirit of hospitality is a sign of faith.
When your family gathers, ask each person to consider the following questions about manners: What does it mean to be a good host? What does it mean to be a good guest? Invite each person to share their thoughts and experiences about being a guest or a host. When they have finished, read aloud Sunday’s Gospel, Matthew 10:37-42.
Ask family members to describe what Jesus says about hospitality extended to his disciples. (Those who receive Jesus’ disciples also receive Jesus himself; hospitality to Jesus’ disciples will be rewarded.) Then encourage family members to talk about what it means to be a good guest or a good host. You might also talk about ways in which your family’s hospitality might be improved upon. Conclude in prayer together that your family grows to be one in which Christian hospitality is experienced by all. Pray together the Lord’s Prayer.

Lost Property
Could families please remember to check our lost property shelf for clothing/ toys etc. if your child is missing items. The lost property is located just inside the glass door to classrooms near our office.
Secondly if you could please ensure your childs name is on all clothing and personal items so that we can do our best to reunite children with their items. Can we also request that you check names on your child's clothing regularly to ensure your child/ children have not picked up peers clothing in error. Unfortunately, due to limited storage space any items remaining in lost property at the end of term 2 will be donated to charity.
Thank you for your help.

All Schools Cross Country 2023
A team of 38 children (our top cross country runners) represented SMP at the Tas All Schools cross country onTuesday. They were part of a 2000 competitor State wide event where age group races had fields of up to 200 runners. The weather was great for running but the track was wet, muddy and in some places slippery. There were some tumbles, lost shoes and some muddy legs at the finish line.
Well done to all the Stella runners it is a much bigger event than school cross country, it's a tough course and an overwhelming number of children in each race. A big congratulations to all the children who took part. You all gave the run your best effort and supported and encouraged each other.. Thanks also to parents and family who came to support the children.
Congratulations to Jakai Wescombe (12y/o boys) who placed 3rd, a full list of results can be found on the tasathletics website.
Marist College Student Visits
Over the last two weeks Marist College Students have called down to Stella to share their creation stories with some of our classrooms. On Thursday, Mrs Cox Grade 7 Religion class came down from Marist to kindly share their creation stories with Room 5. The children loved seeing these stories which were presented in a variety of ways! Their engagement was high and we really enjoyed this collaborative experience.
Stella Choir - Eisteddfod
The Stella Maris choir are to compete in the Annual Burnie Eisteddfod at the Town Hall Wednesday 28th June. 23 students from Grade 2-6 have been practicing their pieces every Thursday lunchtime since the beginning of the year for the event. It has been most enjoyable watching the Stellar singers develop their vocal skills throughout the year.
Some feedback from the judges on the performance:
"Developing a great sense of narrative with your singing"
"An energetic performance"
"Dynamic variation throughout"
Grade 6 Natural Disaster Projects
Our grade 6 students have been very busy learning about natural disasters, and creating their projects. Students have enjoyed engaging with our younger grades who have been very intrigued and asking lots of questions during their visits to view the displays this week.

BIRD HOUSE/ BIRD FEEDER
This is our bird house. It has a tin roof and is made mainly out of recycled materials and has lots of cool little features like a openable roof and a little clock on the side. The roof opens so you can put food and water in there. Finn started the bird house by doing the main frame and walls. Then I came and helped with the floor roof and the other little details. Finn had the idea of making an openable tin roof.
BIRD FEEDER
Ollie built the bird feeder. Made out of recycled wood and plastic. The top lifts open to refill with bird seed. We can hang it from a tree next to the bird house.
