SUNDAY CONNECTION
Gospel Reading
Luke 23:35-43
Jesus is crucified under the title King of the Jews.
Family Connection
Understanding today's Feast of Christ the King may be particularly challenging. While we may not have a direct experience of kings or royalty, we have some sense of what these mean. We know that royalty have sovereignty over their kingdom. We know that those who are subjects to royalty offer them allegiance and honor. Christ is King in a way that is different from traditional understandings of royalty. Christ's kingship extends to all places, all people, and all times. Christ manifests his kingship through his death on the Cross, in which he offers salvation to all.
Recall with your children stories that you may have read about royalty. Talk with your children about what they have learned from these stories about what it means to be a king. Talk about what they have learned from these stories about what it means to be a subject.
Tell your children that this Sunday is the last Sunday in the Church Year, and on this Sunday, we celebrate a special feast called the Feast of Christ the King. Read today's Gospel, Luke 23:35-43. Reflect together on how the various people in this Gospel respond to Jesus on the Cross. Who in this Gospel recognizes Jesus as King? (the thief) What does Jesus promise the thief as a result? (The thief will be with Jesus in paradise.)
Talk about how your family will recognize and honor Christ the King. Pray together the Lord's Prayer and ask God to help your family to act in ways that show you recognize and honor Christ as King.
RE News
On Wednesday of last week Stella hosted the NW region Just Leadership Day. The day was facilitated by representatives from our Catholic charitable organisations including CARITAS Australia, Vinnies and Catholic Mission.
This day is for Grade 5 students from the Catholic Schools in the North-West to gather and learn about Catholic Social Teaching, servant leadership and the great work of these agencies who assist those in need in our world. Students also had the opportunity to start planning practical ways they can support the agencies back at their schools in 2023 through fundraising and awareness-raising events and activities.
Schools were invited to select a small group of students to be a part of this program. Stella was represented by Grade 5 students Jasper, Ezra, Charlie, Evie, Lilli, Macklan, Hadley, Skye, Ellie and Campbell.
Not only did the students learn about Catholic Social Justice, but they also had the opportunity to mix with students from other Catholic schools in our region.
The students saw the fruits of such a day as this in action. Some of our Grade 6 students who attended last year, spoke about how they are putting into action the call of service and leadership to those struggling in our community, by fundraising for our annual appeal, The Giving Tree. They also had the opportunity to sell some of their wares to the adults in attendance.
Here are some of the comments from our students about the day.
I learned about the founders of St Vincent de Paul, and Catholic Mission. I enjoyed all the games that we played. (Charlie)
I learned about the 49 million people who live without a toilet. I enjoyed most meeting and greeting the visitors. (Macklan)
I learned that CARITAS was not all about the money to give. I enjoyed meeting students from different schools and the games. (Skye)
I enjoyed meeting new people from different school and I enjoyed playing people bingo. I learned a lot about Vinnies, CARITAS and Catholic Mission, and that it’s not just all about the money. (Elkie)
I learnt new things such as meeting new people, learning about charity and I enjoyed working with new people. Thank you, Michael and Leanne. (Campbell)
The Just Leadership Day taught us about how to be a good leader and about how to help people. (Azra)
I loved doing the social people bingo. I got to learn about other people and make new friends. I learnt not to be afraid and to be who you are. I also learnt about the charities such as Vinnies through a game called Kahoot. (Lilli)
I learned that some people don’t have everything that other people have. I enjoyed meeting people from other schools. (Hadley)
I learned a lot at the Just leadership Day. One of those things was how many people are in need of support. I enjoyed meeting new people and playing all the activities. (Jasper)
Just Like Jesus Awards
Congratulations to the students that received the "Just Like Jesus" award in our recent assembly. It means that they have been 'caught' treating others in an extra respectful manner.
Congratulations to all our class award recipients!

School News
Breaking news……
Grade 6 – Room 15 are raising funds to buy presents for the St. Vincent de Paul Giving Tree.
Why is this important? As a school we believe that it is important to make a difference to those who are not as fortunate as us, in particular at Christmas time.
We are raising funds through selling bookmarks, bracelet packs, pencils, cards – including Christmas cards, and the BEST sherbet in the world at lunchtimes.
Children are encouraged to bring new, unused gifts, wrapped with a label identifying the age and gender for whom the gift is suitable to their classroom. In return, they will be given a personalised thank you Christmas card. The gifts will be presented to St. Vinnies at our End of Year Assembly
Grade 4 Camp
On Friday, the 4th of November Grade 4 headed off to Camp Clayton for the day. The weather was absolutely marvelous and so were all the students!
When we first arrived we had a rundown of the day from the staff at Camp Clayton and the students were excited to move into their groups for the day along with the parent helpers.
The six activities which the students got to do were the giant swing, challenge course, frisbee golf, flying fox, free games (Gaga pit, beach volleyball, mini-golf and trampolines).
The students really enjoyed all the activities, but after some surveys it was evident that the flying fox and giant swing were the two most popular activities.
A huge thank you to all the staff and parent volunteers for helping to organise such a fantastic day and ensuring that all the students had a great time.
All of the students represented Stella Maris in a fantastic way and are looking forward to visiting again in Grade Five.

The NW Athletics Carnival was held at Penguin today, a team of 42 students represented the school supported by 4 staff members and many parents. The day started with great runs from Mia Fehlberg and Lincoln Kelly winning the 800m. The following races were dominated by Stella Maris children, with many top placings in the races. The field events were tackled with great enthusiasm and some outstanding results from such a positive attitude by students.
The day was an outstanding success and our children were a credit to Stella Maris and their families.
