SUNDAY CONNECTION
Gospel Reading Matthew 5:1-12 Jesus teaches what it means to be happy.
Family Connection
One of the great gifts of our Catholic tradition is the remembrance of and prayer with the saints. The Church offers us an official canon, or list, of saints. On All Saints Day, we recall and pray with these saints. It is important to continue to tell these stories of saints and saintly people to our children so that they have ample models of people of faith for their own lives.
Together as a family, name and tell the story of favourite saints. Together prepare a list of some of the traits that these people have in common (generosity, courage, prayerfulness, and so on). After preparing this list, read together the Gospel, Matthew 5:1-12. Identify how the attitudes described in the Beatitudes are reflected in the lives of the saints and people you named.
Pray together as a family, a Litany of the Saints. (For example, the leader prays, “St. Elizabeth,” and the children are invited to reply, “Pray for us.”) Include in your list the saints and holy people you named in your discussion. Conclude by praying that your family will follow the example of these people as disciples of Jesus.

In November, We Remember
Today is All Soul’s Day. November marks the beginning of the month when we remember all the people we have loved who have died. We also give thanks for the special place they have in our hearts. Although All Souls is a time when we focus on those who we have known and loved, we also pray for those who have died who may not have others to pray for them, and we also remember the service men and women who died in service to our country.
Each grade level participated in a prayerful liturgy. The school candle was lit to represent the spirit of each person in our Stella Community who has died. We also had a red candle to represent all service men and women who died during service to their country. We took time to thank God for these people who have been a part of our lives, be it for just a little while or for a long time. We thanked God for beginnings and endings and all the memories we make in between.
We prayed and thanked God for the comfort we receive from Him and from those around us who support and love us during our time of grief and loss.
“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
Just Like Jesus Awards
Congratulations to the students that received the "Just Like Jesus" award in our recent assembly. It means that they have been 'caught' treating others in an extra respectful manner.
Congratulations to all our class award recipients!

Preparing for 2023
CLASS PLACEMENTS: When we are working out the students’ class groupings each year, we take many factors into consideration, e.g: ability groupings, gender balance, special needs, and groupings. If parents have specific requests they wish to be considered as well, please put these in writing addressed to Mrs Christina Gretton and leave them at the office or with the class teachers by no later than the 11th of November 2022. The request should be clearly stated with a reason for making that request. As you would appreciate, it is a difficult task and impossible to keep everyone happy.
I ask you to remember three things:
- Children adapt more easily than parents
- We consider all factors thoroughly
- In the end, the leadership team make the final decision.
If you wish your child to repeat a year, or you are considering relocating or will not be attending Stella Maris in 2023, could you please inform the school office in writing as per the Terms and Conditions on your child’s signed Enrolment Acceptance?

Schools Basketball Tournament Report
Over the weekend, nearly 60 Stella Maris Primary School students participated in the North-West School Basketball Tournament, which was held in both the Devonport and Latrobe stadiums. The basketball community, family and friends witnessed many amazing moments from our Stella Maris students. It was awesome to see our teams supporting the other Stella teams from the bench and sidelines. Our sportsmanship, energy and school spirit were inspirational!!
Many positive stories have been shared from the weekend’s tournament as all our teams demonstrated our school values!! The children had an opportunity to showcase and improve their skills. They played in a fun and competitive environment and new friendships were created.
A huge thank you must go to all the coaches, referees, managers and parents who made this opportunity a reality.
Four teams successfully made it through to the State Champs being held in Launceston in early December. It was a fantastic weekend with a wonderful group of children representing our school. We are very proud of them all!!
