Gospel Reading John 6:1-15
Jesus feeds the crowd of more than five thousand people with five barley loaves and two fish.
Family Connection
Parents may sympathise with the disciples’ protests when Jesus asks Philip where food might be found for the crowd. In the responses of both Philip and Andrew, we hear feelings of inadequacy as they survey their limited resources in the face of such great need. We may sometimes share these feelings about our own material possessions or our emotional and spiritual resources in the face of our family’s needs. This is a Gospel of hope for these times, which are all too frequent in parenting and family life. As Jesus made the five barley loaves and two fish sufficient to more than meet the needs of over five thousand people, Jesus will also work with what we have to provide for our family’s needs. When we offer our efforts to God, we ask him to transform them so that they will be more than adequate to the tasks and needs before us. As you gather as a family, talk together about the things that your family needs, starting with the basics—food, shelter, safety, and so on. Continue by naming other things that a family needs to be happy and healthy—time together, cooperation, patience, and so on. Observe that sometimes we can feel like we don’t have enough of the things that we need or want. Read together Sunday’s Gospel, John 6:1-15. Talk about how Jesus provided plenty of food for the crowd with just five barley loaves and two fish. We have faith that Jesus will also take what we have and make it enough to satisfy and fill all our needs. We ask for this blessing when we offer to God the work of each day in prayer in the Morning Offering. Pray together the Morning Offering, asking God to bless and make fruitful the work of each of our days.
He greeted me with a good morning kiss and a cup of tea!
I saw Jesus today….
He was rushing around getting ready for school. He thanked me for having put his school shirt in the dryer.
I saw Jesus today….
She said smiled and said, ‘Good morning’ as I came into work.
I saw Jesus today…
He was a child who waved at me madly from outside his classroom.
I saw Jesus today…
She was one of my colleagues giving me a hand with a difficult task.
I saw Jesus today …..on the way home from work….
He was the driver of the car who let me into the long cue as I tried to pull back onto the highway.
I saw Jesus today… at my house again…
He was cooking tea for my family, and asked me how my day had been.
In the year 2021, the Spirit of Jesus is very much alive.
Where did you see Jesus today?
Seeing Jesus in the actions and words of others, and, being Jesus to others in our words and actions, makes a big difference to how we feel after that encounter.
MAKE JESUS REAL- BE BRAVE, BE CURIOUS AND BE KIND

SRC News
This week on MJR Radio Lucy and Lily spoke about being prepared for learning by lining up straight away when the music goes during break times. Lily was walking to line and noticed a class of students lining up quietly and respectfully waiting for their classroom teacher. This allowed the class to begin their work promptly. Lucy noticed two students still playing when the lunch music was going. She politely reminded them that the music was going and they quickly and respectful stopped what they were doing and went to their line. Lining up on time makes a great start for the upcoming lesson for all.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee and the theme for 2021 is “Heal Country.” We celebrated NAIDOC week here at Stella Maris in the last week of Term 2 with class activities as well as an assembly talking about what NAIDOC week means. Students spoke of understanding what Country means to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (both culturally and spiritually) and how we can all play a part to heal Country.
