SUNDAY CONNECTION
Gospel Reading
Luke 12:49-53 Jesus has come not only to bring peace but also division.
Family Connection
Families strive for unity and togetherness. Nobody enjoys occasions when divisions in family life become all too evident. Yet, in this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus says that he has come to bring division and that members of households will be divided.
Talk as a family about the things that you do together to bring about family unity (togetherness), such as sharing meals, going to church together, celebrating special occasions, or sharing family traditions. Explain that all of these things are important and that Jesus wants families to show this kind of love for one another. Point out that this Sunday's Gospel sounds as though Jesus is saying something very different. Tell your children to listen closely as you read aloud Luke 12:49-53.
Explain that sometimes as parents, you have to make decisions that are unpopular with your children. You don't do it to divide the family but because it is the right thing to do. In the short run, such decisions may “divide” children from their parents. In the long run, however, doing the right thing will bring about a deeper unity. Talk to your children about decisions that they have to make that might be unpopular with their friends and how these decisions may divide them from others. Encourage them to pray to the Holy Spirit for the gift of courage (fortitude) so that they may do the right thing even if unpopular. Conclude by praying a spontaneous prayer to the Holy Spirit, asking for the gift of courage (fortitude).

RE News
God’s Greatest Gift is LOVE.
Last Wednesday Grade 1 shared a beautiful and reflective prayerful time together. The focus of their liturgy was God’s Greatest Gift is LOVE.
The children listened to a story from Scripture where through the example of Jesus, and the helper Jesus sends, the Holy Spirit, we are all called to spread the gift of love to all, by the things we say and do. Jesus needs our hands to do his work. The children were able to name the ways that they can do this. They were also able to identify in other people, particularly their friends and family members examples of love, such as when: Mum makes my breakfast. Dad cheers me up with his jokes when I am feeling sad. My friend is kind to me when we play together.
There was also a discussion about how we bring much joy to others when we spread God’s gift of love, including the joy it brings into our own hearts.
The children were respectful and reverent throughout- a sure sign of God’s love in action.
Just Like Jesus Awards
Congratulations to the students that received the "Just Like Jesus" award in our recent assembly. It means that they have been 'caught' treating others in an extra respectful manner.
Congratulations to all our class award recipients!

MJR Radio Report
This week on MJR Radio, Marcellus and Lachie shared what it meant to make good choices in all play areas. Lachie reflected on how he saw other students not tackling during a game of football, instead were simply tagging. This kept students safe and helped them finish the game without injury. Marcellus noticed other students making good choices by adopting the attitude of using manners to help others feel safe. They did this by not being silly and rude at school.
In simple words, we should always make good choices that help others stay safe and feel safe at school.
St Vincent de Paul Appeal
St Vincent de Paul is asking for us to show support for their winter appeal. 1700 people in Tasmania are currently experiencing homelessness and need our help.
By supplying toiletry and self-care items to people that are less fortunate than ourselves, they can feel hygienic, more confident and have a sense of dignity.
These things that we sometimes take for granted can make a big difference to someone suffering from homelessness.
St Vincent de Paul has asked for men’s supplies. The SRC will be placing a poster in your rooms with several items that you could donate like, nail clippers, combs, hand lotion, wet wipes, toothbrush and paste, soap, shaver, and shaving cream.
The SRC will be collecting donations until the 12th of August.
Thank you for your support.
