SUNDAY CONNECTION
Pentecost Sunday, Cycle C Sunday, June 5, 2022
Gospel Reading - John 20:19-23
Jesus appears to his disciples and gives them the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Family Connection
Pentecost is sometimes called the birthday of the Church. The Gospel for Pentecost reminds us that the Church begins with the command to forgive. Within the family, the domestic Church, we learn how to forgive and we learn to accept forgiveness. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that enables us to do both. Today is a fitting time to share a family celebration of reconciliation.
As you gather together as a family, sit quietly for a few minutes, inviting all to reflect upon their need to forgive and to receive forgiveness. If there is a situation or issue within the family that needs attention, spend some time reflecting upon the concern and how your family might address it. Read together Sunday's Gospel, John 20:19-23. Talk together about how Jesus gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us in the work of forgiveness and to bring us peace. Pray together Sunday's psalm, or the Prayer to the Holy Spirit, asking that the Holy Spirit help your family. Share with one another the sign of peace.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.
And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth.
Lord,
by the light of the Holy Spirit
you have taught the hearts of your faithful.
In the same Spirit
help us to relish what is right
and always rejoice in your consolation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

OUR SACRAMENTAL CANDIDATES FOR 2022
God our creator, invites EVERYONE to discipleship. Students from Stella Maris, St Brigid’s Wynyard, other local state schools, and their parents, have been attending the Sacramental Preparation Program being held here at Stella on Wednesday evenings, under the guidance of the Sacramental Co-ordinator Claire Willis. Their participation in the program is an acknowledgement of their commitment to preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist, and continue to be witnesses to the ways of God throughout their lives. Students from Stella participating in this program are Chia Gbenga, Freddie Britza, Amara Gbenga, Sofia Gbenga and Tessa Sailiai.
This is a very special time in the spiritual lives of these young people. They are formally and publicly reinforcing the promise their parents made at their Baptism, to be people of discipleship in the ways of Jesus. They are preparing to become fully initiated members of the Catholic Church, where they have rights and responsibilities, in continuing the mission of Jesus.
During their three-month preparation period, the Burnie/Wynyard Parish and Stella Maris and St Brigid’s school communities will support and acknowledge such an important step through prayers, prayer cards, and school and parish community awareness. This will culminate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Sacrament of Confirmation and Sacrament of Eucharist ceremonies on the 17th, 24th and 28th of August respectively.
Our Stella Sacramental Candidates will be introduced to the school community at our Pentecost Mass this Tuesday.
Prayer for Our Sacramental Candidates
Lord, You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people, so that they may believe in You and in Jesus whom You sent. Look kindly on all Sacramental Candidates as they listen to Your voice in preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. Open their hearts to Your Spirit and bring to fulfilment the good work that You have begun in them.
We pray that You will continue to guide all of us in the ways of Jesus.
The Spirit of Jesus is in our hearts, forever,
Amen.

MJR RADIO NEWS
Last week on MJR Radio Lucas and Tommy shared some insights into being in the right place at the right time. Tommy spoke about the importance of finishing your game quickly, even when you don’t want to and heading straight to the classroom. Lucas also mentioned that when students are lined up ready for class to begin, straight after recess and lunch, it makes it easier for their teacher to do their job. In simple words, be responsible and be in the right place at the right time.
This week on MJR Radio Freya and Mia spoke about being responsible in the playground by resolving conflict appropriately, and caring for the school and each other. Mia reflected on the importance of caring for our school playground by being responsible and picking up rubbish, to keep the playground clean and tidy. Freya spoke about the importance of dealing with arguments in a mature and responsible manner, apologising for any wrongdoing and sometimes agreeing to disagree. In simple words, be responsible and kind. Take care of the school and each other.
